Nick Nilsson – Nick Nilsson has a degree in Physical Education and Psychology and has been innovating new training techniques for more than 20 years. Nick is the author of a number of bodybuilding books including “Muscle Explosion! 28 Days To Maximum Mass”, “Metabolic Surge – Rapid Fat Loss,” “The Best Exercises You’ve Never Heard Of,” “Gluteus to the Maximus – Build a Bigger Butt NOW!” and “The Best Abdominal Exercises You’ve Never Heard Of”, all designed to maximize the results you get for the hard work you put into your training. His YouTube channel is composed of exercise tutorial playlists broken down according to body parts and goals with unique tweaks to help you get the most out of your training time. Some standouts are Loaded Carrying for Strength and Strength Endurance using water jugs and sandbags and Fat Loss Circuit training where you do farmer’s walks between your normal strength training.
Dan John – This is not a YouTube channel but a website full of useful, challenging information and timeless wisdom. Dan John has a knack for breaking down complex ideas into simple truths that are hard to deny even if you don’t agree at first. With a huge catalogue of articles and guest appearances on podcasts and VLOGs, this is the guy that experts call when they need an answer. A garage lifter himself, Dan John walks the walk along with talking the talk. His video series “From The Ground Up” should be the first step anyone takes in learning how to squat.
Starting Strength – Mark Rippetoe is famous for being opinionated and outspoken. He’s also passionate about educating the public about strength development. His channel features two many playlists to list here but includes exercise tutorials, equipment tips and tricks a standout of which is Barbell Basics which gives a rundown on barbells. Different kinds, what to look for when purchasing one, and basic maintenance. In the guest speakers section, a great moment is Jim Wendler’s common sense Strength Training Business Model in which he points out that some “coaches” charge more for their strength training manual than you would pay for most Bible translations which have a better track record in changing lives for the better. Wendler is not known for his devout Christian beliefs which is why this comment struck home. This is a site to bookmark and visit often.
Matthew Vincent -this is the YouTube home base of World Highland Games Champion Matt Vincent. The channel has a TON of useful and motivating information from Highland Games exercise tutorials to a Drifta Lifta series featuring Vincent traveling around, training and hanging out with top athletes across multiple strength fields. There’s a VLOG and Q&A but the best feature is the original content. Unlike powerlifting or bodybuilding channels where you get more of the same each time, this channel strives to bring you original, entertaining content which will expose you to a ton of lesser known but fun looking strength sports. Because Vincent is sponsored by Slingshot and Sorinex strength equipment, you get to see some of the unique equipment from both companies in action which could help you with buying choices. And he drinks coffee and beer from time to time (but not together.) Highly recommended, especially if you’re a strength athlete into nontraditional strength sports.
Kelly Starrett – It’s pretty tough to be in shape when your body is tighter than Dick’s hat band. I don’t care how much you can lift if you can’t touch your toes or pick up a napkin without throwing out your back. From a performance standpoint mobility means your body isn’t fighting itself throughout each movement so you can lift more, run faster and jump higher. And not be wrecked the next day. Starrett, a professional physical therapist, believes that 90% of the problems we take to chiropractors and physical therapists can be fixed at home with the right information. This channel has videos to help you do that without spending hours in Yoga class. Playlists include MobilityWod, and specific at home fixes for lower back, shoulder, ankle and knee pain. Check it out when you’re ready to stop being in pain all of the time.
FiorilloBarbell Company – Is a channel dedicated to stone lifting of all types but especially training to lift the famed Husafell Stone in Iceland. This is seriously a garage gym channel; the action takes place in a yard in Albany, NY. A standout is the Frankenstein Rises series which takes you through the construction of a barrel deadlift setup and lifting the barrel. In 16 degree weather. You can find out more about FiorilloBarbell Company at their website where you can order a free five video course that explains their training philosophy.
